[Thunder Bay Weather] Extreme cold warning lifted, warm moisture starting to take hold, increased chance of snowfall over the next week
Although it may seem counterintuitive, in Thunder Bay's winter, "cloudy skies/starting to snow" and "warming up" are highly correlated: It is expected that after nightfall tonight, Thunder Bay's weather will gradually turn cloudy, signaling that the cold high-pressure system has officially lost its absolute control over Thunder Bay, while a new "Alberta Clipper" low-pressure system, along with warm moist air, is re-taking the weather stage. Currently, all major weather models support that from early to mid-morning tomorrow (Wednesday), this warm moist air will fill the near-surface dry zone created by the earlier cold air, with a chance of squeezing out a bit of light snow; at the same time, temperatures will rapidly rise from this morning's -30°C to around -10°C by tomorrow morning, shifting from extreme cold to normal cold. Thunder Bay has exemplified this perfectly over the past three days: the Thunder Bay National Weather Station at the airport has recorded temperatures below -30°C for two consecutive days, with yesterday (Monday) hitting a low of -32.8°C. The extreme cold warning for Thunder Bay remains in effect, and as of the time of this post, the station's temperature has dropped to -29.3°C, which is 2-3°C lower than at the same time yesterday. Latest news on Overload for Lakehead course selection
Some students plan to graduate in one year and can choose 3 courses in Fall, 3 in Winter, and 4 in Spring/Summer; but if you plan to do Co-op or find a job in Spring/Summer, you might consider overloading one semester to still achieve the 3+3+4 goal, which allows you to gain work experience while saving one semester's tuition ($10,000 CAD). The latest news from ECE is that no overloads will be approved anymore. I only know that someone successfully overloaded in the 24Fall semester, but it was not approved for 25Winter.
