Lakehead Engineering Course Review: EVIC5113
Subject: Engineering Optimization & AI. An introductory course on optimization algorithms and machine learning, touching the surface only. There are just four or five algorithms in total, and the overall difficulty is not high. The professor grades leniently. There is no midterm; Assignments and Project each account for 25%, and the Final is 50%. It is also friendly to students without a background, as the first two or three classes are spent on installing MATLAB and learning basic syntax. In Fall 2024, the Project involved writing a report on related optimization algorithms and recording a video presentation, requiring a team of four. The Final is closed-book and includes

Lakehead Civil Engineering course review for 24Fall EVIC5390
Computer Applications in Traffic Engineering. The core content is the design of intersection traffic light timing to improve traffic efficiency. It is a traditional civil engineering course that requires multi-step calculations using formulas. There are about four or five assignments and closed-book quizzes during the semester, and the quizzes are all original assignment questions. No need to buy textbooks; the main materials are course slides. The simulation software used is Synchro, and only half of the computers in the classroom have the software, so students need to work in pairs. The exam is also conducted in two groups: one takes the written test, the other does the software, then they swap.
