Applications now open for employers seeking international recruitment

Thunder Bay - The Rural Community Immigration Pilot Program of the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission is now accepting employer applications.

According to a release from CEDC on Thursday, the program aims to help improve workforce attraction and retention by streamlining immigration pathways for skilled workers.

Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission CEO Jamie Taylor said in a news release: "The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission is excited to launch the immigration pilot program again, which will build on our previous success in attracting and retaining skilled workers in the community. Such programs play a crucial role in strengthening our local workforce."

"This year we will take a more targeted approach and will support employers in five key areas, including business, finance and administration, health occupations, education, law, social, community and government services, sales and service, as well as trades, transport, equipment operators and related occupations."

The biggest change is the new programis employer-driven.

Applicants do not need to apply to CEDC, and participation is limited to employers in the five approved sectors. Only designated employers can work with CEDC to recommend applicants for permanent residence through the pilot program.

CEDC will review applications on a first-come, first-served basis and issue designation confirmations. Approved employers will be listed as designated employers on the CEDC website so they can evaluate candidates against program eligibility and submit application forms to CEDC for review.

If approved, candidates will receive a recommendation certificate and the employer will be notified. This certificate can be used to apply for permanent residence with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Candidates for the program should contact their employer, and only employers willing to participate can initiate the process of contacting CEDC.
