Extreme cold weather warning issued

Thunder Bay - From now until Tuesday, wind chill values are expected to make it feel like minus 40 degrees Celsius. Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning.

In some areas, the cold snap may persist into Wednesday.

According to the government weather agency, extreme cold temperatures are expected to arrive Saturday evening as Arctic air sweeps across northwestern Ontario.

The public is advised to dress warmly and in layers when going outside. Watch for cold-related symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, and numbness and discoloration in fingers and toes.

The warning covers the city of Thunder Bay and communities east of Thunder Bay, including Marathon and Schreiber. The warning extends east to Dryden and Vermillion Bay, where wind chill values could drop to -45 C. Dryden is currently at -25.7 C.
