Taxi driver assaulted, vehicle stolen, suspect arrested

Thunder Bay - A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an assault on a taxi driver and the theft of his vehicle.

Thunder Bay police said in a news release Wednesday that just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, they received a report of a robbery in progress in the area of Leslie Avenue and Black Bay Road in Current River.

Police said the victim, a male taxi driver, was assaulted before his cab was stolen. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A suspect was located but resisted arrest and fled from police, only to be located again while trying to continue evading police. He has been taken into custody.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault, break and enter, attempted indictable offence, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, breach of probation, and two counts of driving while prohibited.

The accused appeared in court Wednesday and was remanded into custody pending a future court appearance.
