Setting up the cruiser in Kakabeka

Kakabeka - Ontario Provincial Police members spent Saturday afternoon in Kakabeka hoping to leave with a patrol car stuffed full.

OPP staff gathered for the annual Stuff a Cruiser event, which is usually held in December.

"The OPP is helping to support the rural food bank. It's February now, but we set it up in December, but it was cancelled due to weather, so we got together the next day to help them," said Jody Dow.

At Odena Foods, the crew set up and accepted dry food donations and monetary donations.

Dow said any donation is welcome.

"The OPP likes to help support the community and is willing to work in rural areas. This is our community too, and as long as we can help, we will do our best.

This is Dow's third year participating in the OPP's Stuff a Cruiser event in Kakabeka.

"During my policing career, I have participated in Stuff a Cruiser events multiple times. It feels great to get out and support the community and help them. I think the community also likes to see us here," she said.

Dow said anyone who donates can fill out a ballot to win a prize from the food bank.

"We also have some fun things for the kids, and we give them out every time they come here. It's a great thing to give back to the community."

Even after the Stuff a Cruiser event ends, Odena Foods will still accept donations during regular business hours.

The public can also contact the rural food bank office located in the Conmee Community Centre.

OPP members will be at Odena Foods on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
