Man arrested after collision with police cruiser

Thunder Bay - A Thunder Bay man is charged with impaired driving after colliding with a marked police cruiser.

The collision happened around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday when city police were patrolling the intersection of Balmoral Street and Oliver Road.

At the time, the police cruiser was heading south on Balmoral Street with a green light, and another vehicle turned from Oliver Road and collided with the cruiser.

After speaking with the driver of the vehicle, officers said they allegedly found signs of impairment.

Although both vehicles were damaged, no injuries were reported.

The 20-year-old driver is charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.

He was released on bail and promised to appear in court at a future date.
