A stranded bus blocked traffic on John Street

Thunder Bay - Thunder Bay Transit reports delays on several routes Tuesday as a snowstorm hit the system

A bus got stuck on the John Street hill near High Street, forcing the road to close until the bus was removed with the help of a tow truck.

A spokesperson for Thunder Bay Transit told The News Watch that while buses were late, the length of delays varied by route.

With an Alberta clipper expected to dump up to 15 centimetres of snow, Environment Canada issued a travel advisory for the area.

The forecast called for snow that would be heavy at times, then taper off to flurries later in the day and into the evening.

By the afternoon, Thunder Bay Airport had received 16 centimetres of snow, but some residents in other parts of the city reported accumulations of more than 20 centimetres.

As of 2 p.m., Thunder Bay Police had been called to investigate 15 motor vehicle collisions since 6 a.m.
