Stunt driver arrested during police speed enforcement training

Thunder Bay - On Monday, a driver was speeding at the wrong time and in the wrong place, going more than 40 km/h over the limit.

As it happens, Thunder Bay Police traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement training for several members of the TBPS primary response unit.

While demonstrating the use of a handheld laser speed device, they tracked a compact car traveling at 93 km/h on a stretch of Golf Links Road where the limit is 50 km/h.

The female driver was charged with speeding and stunt driving, and was given a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

The charges have not yet been heard in court, but she is scheduled to appear in provincial criminal court in May, and if convicted, she faces a hefty fine.

This incident occurred one day after the TBPS traffic unit charged a 76-year-old driver,after he was tracked going 105 km/h in a 50 km/h community safety zone on Oliver Road near the hospital and Lakehead University.

That individual was also charged with speeding and stunt driving.
