Caught dangerous driving on Dawson Road

Thunder Bay - A sticker on the tailgate of a pickup truck read, "If driving responsibly, please report stolen."

But on Saturday, an officer with the Thunder Bay Police Service's traffic unit likely wasn't amused when he saw the notice while pulling the driver over.

The incident happened on Dawson Road, where police say the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed.

Police commented on social media: "The truck was in fact not being driven responsibly, nor was it stolen."

The driver was charged with speeding and stunt driving, and was prohibited from driving the truck for 14 days and had their licence suspended for 30 days.

Stunt driving is defined as exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h or more on roads where the posted limit is less than 80 km/h.

Police said that on this stretch of Dawson Road, under ideal conditions, a vehicle travelling at 50 km/h would need about 15 metres to stop, but at 90 km/h that distance would increase to about 50 metres.
