Latest PGWP details for post-graduation work permits

Two major changes:

New language proficiency requirement

Many programs no longer eligible

Details of the new rules:

For those who submitted a study permit application before November 1, 2024:

If you apply for a PGWP on or after November 1, 2024, you must meet the new language proficiency requirements:

Bachelor's, master's, and doctoral graduates: English CLB7 or French NCLC7

Other university programs (e.g., diploma): English CLB7 or French NCLC7

College programs: English CLB5 or French NCLC5

Note: Language test results must be within the last 2 years!

For those who submit a study permit application on or after November 1, 2024:

In addition to language proficiency requirements, you must also meet the program requirements!

Bachelor's, master's, and doctoral graduates: Language requirement CLB7/NCLC7, all programs eligible

Other university programs (e.g., diploma): Language requirement CLB7/NCLC7, and must have graduated from an eligible program

College programs: Language requirement CLB5/NCLC5, and must have graduated from an eligible program

Eligible programs fall into 5 categories:

Agriculture and Agri-food

Healthcare

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Trade

Transport
