Ontario's Provincial Nominee Program launches new initiative: REDI

On January 17, Ontario's Provincial Nominee Program launched a new pilot project for regional economic development, the Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) pilot.

This project is included in the Employer Job Offer Stream. Applicants only need to enter the Job Offer Stream pool; there is no need to enter a separate pool for this pilot.

Those who enter the Job Offer Stream pool and live and work full-time in one of the four designated communities may receive a targeted invitation from Ontario.

The four designated communities include:
- Lanark
- Leeds and Grenville
- Sarnia-Lambton
- Thunder Bay

This pilot project lasts one year, with 200 quotas for each community. OINP may decide whether to extend it or make it permanent based on the results of this year's pilot.

From OINP's first new policy this year, it can also be seen that with limited quotas, Ontario will place more emphasis on applicants' contributions to the job market and the economy of remote areas. Other applicants who do not need a job for the time being, such as master's and doctoral graduates, should also pay attention to finding a job to avoid new policy changes affecting their eligibility.
