Timmins woman wins $1.8 million hospital 50/50 draw

Lucie Clifford is the winner of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation's January 50/50 draw, with a prize of over $1.8 million.

Clifford, who lives in Timmins, had just finished a day of teaching on Friday when she received a call from Glenn Craig, the foundation's President and CEO.

"Oh my goodness, I don't even know what to say. I'm speechless, and that doesn't happen often," Clifford said during her conversation with Craig. "I've been buying tickets from the start, helping out as much as I can. Now, this really helps me out."

Clifford retired from her teaching position eight years ago and is now a grandmother. She still works as a substitute teacher.

With the January winner selected, the February 50/50 draw is now underway.

This month's early bird prizes total $85,000, with $50,000 to be awarded in the first week of February.

The Valentine's Day grand draw will also award 20 early bird prizes, each worth $1,000. An additional early bird prize of $10,000 will be awarded on February 26.

The grand prize draw will take place on February 28.
