Canada driver's license process G1, G2, G

First of all, a Canadian driver's license is issued by the provincial government (not the Canadian government), so each province is a bit different, and the driving tests are also different. But if you get a valid license in any province, you can drive anywhere in Canada. Moreover, because Canadian driver's licenses are highly recognized, they can be used directly throughout North America and even in Europe.

According to Canadian law, you must be at least 16 years old to apply for a driver's license. Unless you are getting a professional driver's license (such as for large buses, trucks, or motorcycles), you generally only need to get a G-class license, which allows you to drive cars, small passenger vehicles, and small trucks. This is slightly different from China's C-class license, but overall it's the same - both are for private vehicles.

According to Ontario's Highway Traffic Act, getting a driver's license in Ontario is divided into three stages:
1. After passing the written test, you get a G1 license.
2. After passing the road test, you get a G2 license.
3. After passing the highway test, you get a G license.

G1 Test
Multiple-choice questions - a total of 40 questions, divided into two parts: rules and traffic signs. 20 are traffic signs and 20 are general driving knowledge. If you get 4 or more wrong in either section, you fail. If you fail, you can pay and retake it immediately. You can take the test at the Thunder Bay DriveTest center as a walk-in, and you can choose the English version or Traditional Chinese version. There is no time limit, and it usually takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.

G2 Test
The G2 road test has seven components: exiting a parking lot; three-point turn; driving; intersections; left and right turns; parallel parking; and uphill or downhill parking.

After passing the G1 written test, you can apply for the G2 practical driving test. However, if you don't have an exemption with proof of driving experience from China, you can't start the G2 test right after passing G1. You must wait at least 12 months with a G1, or you can take a full driver education course to shorten it to 8 months, before you can take the G2 road test.

G Test
This test is actually similar to the G2, but it includes highway driving, and the evaluation criteria are stricter than G2. I recommend taking the test in a small town, as the examiners tend to be more lenient.
